Phil Stanford / The Real Watergate Story

The Mind's Eye show with Brian Turnof converses with Phil Stanford, journalist and true crime writer with a special interest in political corruption. His work has been featured in the New York Times Magazine, Parade, and Rolling Stone. Phil's past efforts on the murder of Oregon Department of Corrections director Michael Francke and the “Happy Face Killer” case have resulted in multiple innocent people being released from prison.

Tonight's discussion focuses on Phil Stanford's most recent book White House Call Girl, which is the true story Heidi Rikan, who was an ex-stripper, working for the mob in D.C. A call girl operation she was running led to the 1972 Watergate break-in and the downfall of the President Richard Nixon, Many of the book’s most important revelations are, in fact, based on Stanford’s recent discovery of Heidi’s little black book. Though it’s a fully sourced political non-fiction, it sounds like a detective novel, full of prostitutes, mobsters, and political operatives. This is not part of the Watergate story that has come down to us over the decades.
