You First

“You First”
John 13:1-17
January 7, 2018

How do you show someone that you really love them?

Five Love Languages:
1. Words of Affirmation
2. Quality Time
3. Receiving Gifts
4. Acts of Service
5. Physical Touch

John 13:1-17

Jesus showed the full extent of His love by washing the disciples’ feet.

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care - then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”
-Philippians 2:1-4 ( The Message)

These are actions we are to take, not just ideas with which we are to agree.

“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death–even death on a cross!”
-Philippians 2:8

“But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
-Philippians 2:7

“When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process.”
-Philippians 2:7-8a (The Message)

Jesus did the job no one else wanted to do.

“You First”

Most of our lives are lived doing what others call ordinary, but the ordinary is where life is found.

“Most good thing have been said far too many times and just need to be lived.” – Shane Claiborne.
